Several People Injured in Fast-Moving Storm
![]() |
At least seven people were injured in the wake of fast-moving storm that dumped lots of rain across the state today. It spawned a tornado warning across a swath of Hillsborough and Polk counties.
A line of strong thunderstorms created a tornado warning from MacDill Air Force Base to the northeast, across northern Hillsborough and Polk. A waterspout was spotted off MacDill, but may have not touched land. Jennifer Colson is with the National Weather Service in Ruskin.
"We've actually not had reports of anyone seeing a tornado," Colson said, "but we have received word of damage at the state fair with some tents blown down and some injuries having occured from that."
Hillsborough County fire officials are reporting that seven people were injured at the state fairgrounds. The storms are now well east of the Tampa Bay area. The weather should improve overnight, with tomorrow looking quite sunny and cool.
