Gov. Charlie Crist is defending himself against allegations that he knew about and approved of a secret fundraising contract involving former state GOP Party Chairman Jim Greer.

Greer’s lawyer is saying Crist signed off on Victory Strategies, the secret company that gave a 10 percent cut of donor money to Greer and party executive director Delmar Johnson.

He even described a pool game where Crist allegedly said that Greer deserved the money.

Now, Greer faces federal charges of fraud and stealing money from the party.

Crist says he knew nothing about the company, and Greer’s lawyer is simply lying.

“It’s just wrong. It’s sad when people in a desperate situation say desperate things,” he said.

When asked why he didn’t respond to concerns about Greer’s spending, he said his job is to run the state of Florida – not a political party.
