Tampa Bay's Home Values Slow Their Decline
![]() |
Home values in Florida continue to drastically decline...but in the Tampa Bay area, the descent seems to be slowing.
The latest numbers from Zillow.com show Tampa Bay's average home price was up slightly this month over last month for the first time in four years. Clearwater's housing prices were up for the third month in a row -- though even Clearwater was still down 3.4 percent from last year.
Tampa Metro prices overall were down 8.2 percent from last year.
The number of Tampa Bay homeowners who owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth also remained high, at 45.3 percent. The area is third in the nation in the number of homeowners who are underwater, behind Phoenix and Riverside, California.
