A a chapter of a national fraternity was suspended earlier this week at USF after it was investigated for hazing. Today, a group of students got together with a message that hazing isn't for them.
Several dozen students clad in their Greek T-Shirts got together in front of the Marshall Center on the USF Tampa campus for an improptu rally. They signed placards protesting violence and said hazing isn't what fraternity life is about.
Senior Jeff Smalls is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha:
"We all decided to come out here together, all the Greeks here at USF banded together to show the community that we're not about hazing," Smalls said. "And when it happens to one organization, it affects all us, because we're all Greeks and we all have our values and our principles that we go by, so we're not all about violence and hazing."
Tampa police say they're investigating a report of an off-campus hazing incident about 10 days ago involving the USF chapter of Omega Psi Phi. The case has been turned over to the state attorney's office for a decision on whether to pursue criminal charges.
