Record Cold Weather Caps Year of Extreme Temperatures in Florida

TAMPA (2010-12-27) -

Near-record lows are being forecast throughout Florida Monday night, capping off a year of extreme temperatures.

There’s a Hard Freeze Warning Tonight for all Tampa Bay counties except Pinellas, and a Freeze Warning for Pinellas County.

Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay at Bay News 9 says it’s the latest in a year of extremes. He says this is going to be the coldest December on record for Tampa.

That follows the hottest summer on record and the coldest winter on record earlier this year.

Clay says it’ll be clear and very cold Monday night with a low of 30 and lows in the 20s inland.

Tuesday will be sunny and still chilly with a high of 55. Tuesday night temperatures will hover at around the freezing mark.

But a warmer weather pattern should bring more normal temperatures to Florida – at least for the next two weeks, he said.
