TECO Sends Help in Response to Southern Storms
The deadly tornadoes that tore through the South left hundreds of thousands of people in the dark in Alabama. Tampa Electric is dispatching teams to help.
Tampa Electric is sending more than one hundred team members and contract linemen to Alabama. TECO spokesman Rick Morera has his crews' safety in mind.
"When you have storms that have impacted the area severely as they did, we'll always have to be cautious," he said. "That's why safety is our absolutely number one priority when we're working here or responding as we are."
At the peak of Wednesday's storms more than 400,000 customers were without power.
Morera says the TECO crews will do everything they can and stay as long as Alabama Power needs them to get the job done.
Tampa Electric among other utility services in the Southeast work under an agreement to aid each other during disasters.
