TAMPA (2011-8-17) -
Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor says former Freedom High student Jared Michael Cano planned to bomb the school on opening day.
Castor said a tip led them to the 17-year-old Cano's house, where they found the ingredients for pipe bombs, including shrapnel, tubing and timing devices.
The Tampa Bomb Squad also found a journal, with a hit list naming two Freedom High teachers and saying Cano wanted the attack to be "more spectacular than Columbine," referring to the 1999 attack by two Colorado high school students that killed 12 students and a teacher.
Cano is facing multiple felony charges associated with the bombing plot.
