TAMPA (2011-09-20) -

Tampa Bay's University Community Health system has a new name. On Tuesday, executives announced UCH's merger with a faith-based hospital system.

Adventist Health System runs facilities in a dozen states. In Florida, it operates as Florida Hospital. So UCH will now be known as Florida Hospital Tampa. It's part of a new Tampa Bay Division that includes Pepin Heart Hospital--now called Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute.

Also under the Florida Hospital brand will be a new medical center that's scheduled to open next fall in Pasco County.

Robert Anderson chairs the UCH board of trustees. He told about 200 reporters, health care workers and community members that the Wesley Chapel building was already in the works before Florida Hospital came into the picture.

"As we started thinking about who would we partner with, it suddenly struck the board," Anderson said. "It was like the big duh."

Also under way is a new stroke center in Tampa.
