USF Offers Free Flu Shots

TAMPA (2011-20-10) -

With flu season fast approaching, the USF College of Public Health is encouraging people to get their flu shots...and they're offering them the chance to get a free shot Friday, October 20th.

The 16th Annual Free Flu Shot Drive is being presented on the USF Tampa campus in collaboration with USF Health and the Hillsborough County Health Department. It's open to the public from 8 am to 4 pm, or until they run out of shots.

College of Public Health Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Deanna Wathington says while everyone should get the shot, there's certain groups that really need it.

"We certainly believe that there's some folks, those with certain immune-compromised positions, those who have medical conditions such as asthma, heart disease, even in children younger than 18, this vaccine is indicated."

Wathington says they gave out almost one thousand shots last year, and expects a similar number of people to turn out again this year.

The USF College of Public Health is located in Building 3010 at 13201 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, near the corner of Bruce B. Downs and Fletcher Avenue.
