Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority
In May, state lawmakers created a regional mass transit authority with the goal of exploring future transportation options for a seven-county region. Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota are among the counties in the new Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority. Polk County is notably absent from the list. Commissioners there didn't rule out joining in the future, once the authority's roll becomes clearer. Governor Crist held off on funding the authority for now so local dollars will be vital to its success. We'll take a look at the new Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority on this week’s Florida Matters.
