Offshore oil rig
Expanding Offshore Drilling

Last week, President Obama announced plans to expand offshore drilling in the United States, allowing new exploration in federal waters as close as 125 miles from Florida’s Gulf coast. The move comes on the heels of efforts in Florida last fall to open state waters for oil and natural gas exploration. The state’s oil and gas industry is cautiously optimistic about the president’s move while environmentalists worry it’s the beginning of a big expansion in federal- and state-controlled waters. We’ll hear reaction to the federal plan and talk about what it means for Florida.
