As part of a USF St. Petersburg political science class, nineteen students hit "The Road to the White House" with a ten-day internship in New Hampshire working on presidential campaigns for the nation's first primary. University Beat visits the class to bring you some of their campaign trail stories.

Stampede of Service (February 10, 2008)

Description: 
This week's University Beat puts you right in the middle of USF's "Stampede of Service," a one-day service event that's part of the University's Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. In just three years of existence, the Stampede has more than doubled in size, with over two thousand USF students lending a hand this year to more than forty organizations around Hillsborough County.

Many Faces of Africa (February 3, 2008)

Description: 
This week's University Beat takes you to the "Many Faces of Africa," a symposium presented by USF's Institute on Black Life. The day-long session drew over 350 Hillsborough County Middle School students to the USF campus, where they heard personal stories from USF students and teachers from a variety of African countries, and experienced an interactive session on African animals presented by representatives from Busch Gardens.

Perlman Music Program (January 27, 2008)

Description: 
USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus recently hosted world-renowned violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman and his "Perlman Music Program." The two week Winter Residency, presented in conjunction with the Van Wezel Foundation, welcomed over thirty young, gifted musicians from around the globe for a series of classes and lessons, as well as recitals and performances that were open to the public. University Beat takes you to one of those concerts, and speaks with Maestro Perlman as well.

Forensic Sciences (January 13, 2008)

Description: 
USF's Department of Anthropology and Geology are offering assistance to local law enforcement with a course on forensic archaeology and geophysics. University Beat attended one of the class' field trips - to an actual field on campus where students put their lessons to practice in the "search" for a "buried body."

STARS, or "Students Tutoring And Role-modeling Students," is the brainchild of USF's Medical School Class of 2010, and pairs them with middle school students at Tampa's Carl Sagan Academy. University Beat joins the Sagan students on a visit to USF's Medical School on "Shooting STARS Day."
