African American Oral History Project
Once nearly abandoned in a garage, almost one hundred interviews with prominent members of Tampa’s African American community have now found a home at the University of South Florida. This week’s University Beat on WUSF TV, which won a 2010 Griot Drum Award for Non-deadline TV Reporting from the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists, takes you to the new “Otis R. Anthony African Americans in Florida Oral History Project” and shows you how one man’s dream is helping students and the community. Also: The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists recently named WUSF 89.7’s University Beat the winner of a 2010 Griot Drum Award for Radio Features Reporting. We’ll bring you a re-broadcast of that award-winning report this week, as Mark Schreiner takes us to USF Library’s “Otis R. Anthony African American Oral History Project,” a collection of almost one hundred interviews with Tampa residents dating back to the early 20th century.
