The duo of Anne Sullivan on harp and Joan Sparks on flute are performing in this concert to benefit Sarasota United for Responsibility and Equity (SURE), a not-for-profit coalition of 17 local faith communities involved in justice advocacy in Sarasota. The two have been playing together for two decades and were National Flute Association Chamber Music Competition winners in 1988 and 1996.
Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address provides the core text for this original theatrical composition, combining experimental vocal music, speech, and movement. Composed by Professor of Music Stephen Miles and Adjunct Professor of Theater Margaret Eginton, “Living and Dead” features seven New College students performing in the intimate space of the College Hall Music Room.
