Not In Our Town

Not In Our Town LogoWUSF is one of 12 public media partners in the United States selected to collaborate on a national engagement campaign, the NIOT Inclusive Communities Initiative. The Initiative launches in September 2011 in conjunction with the national PBS fall broadcast of the documentary special, Not In Our Town III: Light in the Darkness, and will continue through the spring broadcast of a special featuring several communities developing solutions to address social justice challenges.

As part of this project, WUSF is partnering with Community Tampa Bay, an organization committed to promoting dialogue and respect among all cultures, religions and races by cultivating leaders to change communities. Community Tampa Bay will work with WUSF to plan and implement project events and activities that will include a film screening and panel discussion at USF, a Unity conference at an area high school, and creation of topical content for broadcast on TV and radio.

This web page provides local resources and NIOT/PBS content on demand.

About the Video

Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness tells the story of the residents in a Long Island community taking action after a local immigrant is killed in a hate crime attack. The story provides a blueprint for people who want to do something before intolerance turns to violence. The film airs nationwide on PBS stations including WUSF on Wednesday September 21 at 10:00 PM. As part of Not In Our Town National Week of Action, Sept. 18-24, communities throughout the country will host screenings, events and discussions on hate crime prevention and new ways to make their towns safer for everyone.
