Dance Marathon / Summer Camps Preview Part 1
Students at USF are getting ready to ‘shake their miracle maker’ at this year’s Dance Marathon, which once again benefits All Children’s Hospital. This week’s University Beat on WUSF-TV/DT has a preview of the event, which starts at noon March 27th and won’t end until the last dance 17 hours later.
With all this cold weather lately, it’s hard to believe it’s right around the corner: summer camp! In the first of a special two-part preview, this week’s University Beat on WUSF 89.7 FM looks at an Oceanography Camp at USF Saint Petersburg that gets girls more interested in a career in science.
Student Angela Russell, USF Dance Marathon’s Executive Director of Promotions, talks about some of the specifics for this year’s Dance Marathon.
Angela Russell answers the question: why should the public and USF students support the Dance Marathon?
Melissa Weibley, Graduate Advisor for the USF Dance Marathon, talks about how meeting someone like her who’s received treatment at All Children’s Hospital helps personalize the experience for USF students working on the Marathon.
Children’s Miracle Network Coordinator Crissy McWilliams takes us on a virtual tour of the new state-of-the-art All Children’s Hospital that funds from previous Dance Marathons helped build.
Dr. Teresa Greely, Coordinator of Education and Outreach at the USF College of Marine Science, talks about the purpose and activities of the USF Girls Oceanography Camp.
Dr. Greely says the camp demystifies science for the girls while also helping them with other social skills. Also, previous campers play an important role in the camp.
Dr. Greely answers the question: “why an oceanography camp ONLY for girls?”
