With more research showing both the short and long-term health repercussions of concussions, USF is getting involved with its new “Concussion Center.” University Beat on WUSF-TV shows us some of the projects the Center is focusing on and introduces us to a high school athlete who stands to benefit from that work.

Until this year, no USF undergraduate had ever won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship—but now TWO outstanding students have taken the honor. This week’s University Beat on WUSF 89.7 FM introduces you to the pair, seniors Juan Baso and Amber Schmidt, and tells us how they’ve combined intelligence, compassion and humility to achieve just a portion of their lofty goals.
