SCF Music Program Students Perform at Riverwalk Grand Opening

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Music Program students will perform at the grand opening of Riverwalk on Thursday, Oct. 18, in downtown Bradenton.
SCF student groups featured at the event include Chamber Choir, directed by Melodie Dickerson; Jazz Ensemble, directed by Marc Mannino; Guitar Ensemble, directed by Rex Willis; Brass Choir, directed by Todd Craven; and Percussion Ensemble, directed by Tom Suta. Robyn Wilkes, SCF director of instrumental studies, coordinated SCF’s participation in the event.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., SCF student Zachary Carrier will play selections, including “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Autumn Leaves” and other jazz standards, on the piano prior to the official ribbon cutting at 5:15 p.m.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, SCF’s Brass Choir will open with the “Star-Spangled Banner” at 5:45 p.m.
Throughout the evening, other student groups will enliven the festivities with a variety of music.
SCF Jazz Ensemble will perform “Straighten Up and Fly Right” by Nat King Cole and Irving Mills; “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Cole Porter; “Confirmation” by Charlie Parker; and “Perdido” by Juan Tizol. Percussion Ensemble will feature “Three Brothers” by Michael Colgrass and “Percussion Movement” by Alexander Tcherpenin.
SCF Guitar Ensemble will present “Trio Facile” by Lenard de Call; “Habanera de Carmen” by George Bizet ; “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” first movement, allegro, by W. A. Mozart; and “Twilight at the Zocalo” by RG Rhoades.
SCF Chamber Choir will perform “Voice Dance” by Greg Jasperse; “Sure on This Shining Night,” by Morten Lauridsen; “Down to the River to Pray” by Alison Krauss; “The Water Is Wide” arranged by Roger Folostrom; “Moonglow” arranged by Darmon Meader; “Let the River Run” arranged by Carig Hella Johnson; and “Walking on the Green Grass” by Michael Hennigan.
The Riverwalk is a 1.5 mile-long park that includes a kayak launch, beach volleyball court, fishing pier, rowing venue, first-class skatepark, tidal discovery zone, shaded areas to read and lounge, an interactive splash fountain, and a 19-slip day dock. The Riverwalk has a gallery of outdoor art with more than 20 pieces that offer interactive sound sculptures, river history, and beauty to match the river setting.
The presenting sponsor of the grand opening celebration is C1 Bank. Other sponsors include Realize Bradenton, The City of Bradenton, Manatee County, Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, NDC Construction Company and Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc.
