Tampa Repertory Theatre and Hat Trick Theatre Productions will bring Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet to the Studio Theatre stage at HCC Ybor City, opening April 25, 2013 and running through May 12. Performance times are 7:30 PM on Thursdays, 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3:00 PM on Sundays. Tickets are $20; $15 tickets are available to students, seniors, and military personnel. HCC Ybor City’s Studio Theatre is located at 2204 N 15th Street, Ybor City; at the corner of East Palm Avenue and North 14th Street (Avenida Republica de Cuba). Patrons may purchase tickets at the door or from a link at tamparep.org.

Part detective story, part psychological profile, part swashbuckler, part romance, and part comedy, the play mixes genres as rapidly as Hamlet switches moods. “Although it’s one of the most famous plays of all time,” says Director C. David Frankel (also TampaRep’s artistic director), “Hamlet still can surprise; it's an exciting story that twists and turns, and veers from the sublime to the comic and back again.”

Frankel has assembled an extraordinary company for Hamlet, starting at the top with veteran actor Jack Holloway in the title role. An actor’s actor, universally admired by his peers and beloved by audiences and critics for his dynamic performances with Tampa Bay’s best companies over the past decade, Holloway is the recipient of many awards, including first place in a national drama competition sponsored by the National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL) and Creative Loafing’s “Best of the Bay” award for best local actor. Holloway is also the artistic director of Hat Trick Theatre Productions, co-producer with TampaRep.

Holloway’s melancholy Dane will be supported by a Who’s Who of Tampa Bay talent, including former USF theatre professor Robin Gordon as Queen Gertrude, Jim Wicker as the ghost of Hamlet’s father, Steve Mountan as the funny sage Polonius, Ned Averill-Snell as Hamlet’s scheming uncle Claudius, Jonathan Cho as Hamlet’s hotheaded rival Laertes, Emily Belvo as the tragic Ophelia, and Caitlin Eason as Hamlet’s confidant Horatio. Rounding out the company are Gi Sung, Adam Crain, and Rodner Solgado in multiple roles.

Hamlet brings TampaRep's second mainstage season to a close, following the company’s critically acclaimed production of The Glass Menagerie. More information about TampaRep and its mission is available at tamparep.org.
