Donor Generosity Funds WUSF Studio Renovation

Jack and Beatrice Donis

When Jack and Beatrice Donis moved to the Tampa Bay Area in 1983, they quickly discovered the home of classical music, WUSF 89.7. Soon after, they became donors to the station. More than 20 years later, the support still continues.

"Classical music was my husband's greatest joy," says Beatrice of her late husband, Jack. After his death, she looked for a fitting memorial for her husband, beyond a granite headstone for his grave.

"Funding for a renovation of a WUSF studio took shape in my mind as a wonderful way to commemorate my husband's life, because listening to WUSF was his passion," she says. "The idea came about through discussions with Scott Nolan, WUSF Public Broadcasting Development Officer, who provided me with figures and facts for my decision."

New Equipment Makes an Enormous Difference.
Donis' generosity has resulted in the renovation of the WUSF studio, which will now be known as The Donis Studio. WUSF Station Manager Tom Dollenmayer says, "Thanks to Bea's donation, we now have custom broadcast furniture which enables us to accomodate more guests for on-air interviews and upgraded audio equipment that enhances the sound quality for our listeners during programs like Florida Matters."

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at The Donis Studio on January 24. The studio features a sign reading, "The Donis Studio, in memory of classical music lover Dr. Jack P. Donis." "I am delighted with the new studio," Beatrice Donis says. "I feel good about having made this contribution, especially as a memorial to my husband."

Scott Nolan added, "It's been a joy helping Bea with this gift. What she's done provides an inspiring and lasting tribute to Jack, and her gift makes a remarkable difference in our ability to serve the community. She is an exceptional person."
