This American Life

This American Life documents and describes contemporary America, but it is, quite literally, a unique kind of radio storytelling. Host Ira Glass explores a weekly theme — fiascos, conventions, the job that takes over your life — through a playful mix of radio monologues, mini-documentaries, "found tape," short fiction, and unusual music. The stories and issues are presented are engaging, intimate, surprising, funny, disturbing, and sometimes bittersweet. This American Life also gives you a chance to hear well-known writers like David Sedaris, new voices like Sarah Vowell and Nancy Updike, and just plain people who send in tapes.
