Antonin Dvorak: Piano Trio No. 1 in Bb, Op. 21
Antonin Dvorak composed two piano trios in 1871, both of which were lost, so the third trio he wrote we now know as the Piano Trio No. 1. Dvorak composed the work in 1875, a productive year for the composer; he completed his famous Serenade in E major that year, and there’s even evidence he finished both pieces on the same day. The Piano Trio No. 1 has an undeniable Czech-folk style, and parts of the Scherzo movement even have the character of the Slavonic Dances.
