Carl Goldmark: Violin Concerto No. 1 in a Op. 28

Karl Goldmark

Karl Goldmark was actually a self-taught composer – his formal musical studies actually focused on the violin, which he began playing at the age of 11. It’s fitting, then, that his most performed and recorded work is his first Violin Concerto, composed in 1877. In this work, Goldmark has surely created on of the Nineteenth century’s violin masterworks, which stands alongside the great Romantic violin concertos of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, and others. That’s tonight at 7: our Evening Masterwork on Classical WSMR.
