Johannes Brahms: Piano Quartet No. 1 in g Op. 25

Johannes Brahms: Piano Quartet No. 1 in g Op. 25

The first Piano Quartet by Brahms both looks backwards and forwards. It’s a work that is reminiscent of the music of Schubert, a favorite composer of Brahms, but it also looks forward to the innovative nature of music by composers like Schoenberg. To the public, though, the work initially had mixed reviews – but to composers and other influential musicians of the time, they thought of the work as pure genius.
