Then & Now 10/12: Celebrating the Florida Orchestra

On this date in 1984, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s "Celebration” was premiered at the inaugural concert of the Indianapolis Symphony's new home, the Circle Theater.

We’re celebrating one of our own orchestra’s this year.  The Florida Orchestra has just opened its 50th anniversary season, and Classical WSMR is going to air several of their masterworks concerts over the next several months.  The first one is coming up a week from tonight as we feature the opening concert from last week.  Music Director Michael Francis leads the orchestra and the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay in a powerful performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.  It’s our Thursday Masterwork with the Florida Orchestra next Thursday night at 7:00 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9.
