Then & Now 10/19: Bach to Stravinsky

Then & Now 10/19: Bach to Stravinsky

On this date in 1933, the German conductor and composer Otto Klemperer led his first concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The program included a transcription of J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue" in d, Stravinsky's "Petrouchka" Ballet Suite, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.

You can hear the Los Angeles Philharmonic play Petrouchka tomorrow night right here on Classical WSMR!  It’s part of an all-Russian program on SymphonyCast.  You’ll also hear acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham playing the Violin Concerto No. 2 by Prokofiev, and Gustavo Dudamel conducts a performance of Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky.  SymphonyCast is every Friday night at 8, and Sunday night’s at 10 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9.
