Then & Now 11/30: FL Orchestra

Then & Now 11/30: WSMR Night with the Florida Orchestra

On this date in 1913, Rachmaninoff’s choral symphonic poem, “The Bells,” had its premiere in St. Petersburg, with the composer conducting.

The Florida Orchestra is playing the Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2 this weekend as Stuart Malina conducts the next masterworks concert in Tampa and St. Pete.  And speaking of the Florida Orchestra, did you know that you can help Classical WSMR raise the funds we need so we can expand our reach in this community to bring classical music to more people?  Well, you can!  WSMR will receive the proceeds from a concert the orchestra is giving on January 5th.  It’s Classical WSMR Night with the Florida Orchestra!  Former music director Jahja Ling returns to conduct Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Sibelius Symphony No. 2.  This is a benefit concert for WSMR, so you’ll be helping your classical music radio station just by having a great night out with the Florida Orchestra.  The concert is Friday, January 5th at the Straz Center in downtown Tampa.  Tickets are available at 813-229-STAR or visit www.wsmr.org
