Then & Now 5/14: Felix Mendelssohn's Hebrides
On this date in music history, Felix Mendelssohn's Hebrides overture, also known as the overture to Fingal's cave premiered in London...in 1832. It was the fruit of a grand tour he took, part of a rite of passage of the wealthy back in the day. That trip to Scotland brought forth not only that overture, but also his "Scottish Symphony."
And today, Imperial Designs: From the Habsburg’s Herend to the Romanov’s Faberge at the Henry B. Plant Museum in Tampa. The exhibition includes Russian eggs presented by tsars, and other beautiful things, it’s open starting at 10:00 AM.
