Then & Now 9/20: Music From London
On this date in 1930, the first public performance of Elgar’s "Pomp and Circumstance" March No. 5 took place at Queen's Hall in London, with Sir Henry Wood conducting. The first performance ever of this music occurred two days earlier, when Elgar himself recorded his new march at HMV's London studios.
You can hear some great music performed in London this Friday night when SymphonyCast pays another visit to the BBC Proms. This week the Vienna Philharmonic brings us an energetic concert filled with song and dance. Listen as Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, and pianist Emanuel Ax joins in for a performance of the Piano Concerto No. 14 by Mozart. Friday night at 8:00 on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9. [Photo:bit.ly/2xfhfWF; PublicDomain:bit.ly/2g6BDl1]
