Then & Now 9/29: One Last Time

On this date in 1918, Gustav Holst’s The Planets had its premiere at a private concert at Queen's Hall, London, under the direction of Adrian Boult. The first public performance of some excerpts from "The Planets" took place later in February of 1919, after which the suite quickly became Holst's best-known composition. We’ll take you to London one last time for a visit to the BBC Proms, which will feature some other British favorites including the famous Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Edward Elgar.  There’s also a Fantasia on British Sea-Songs, and a rousing version of Rule, Britannia!  The BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus along with the BBC Singers will be featured in the Last night of the 2017 BBC Proms, and you can hear that gala concert tonight at 8:00 and Sunday night at 10, on SymphonyCast here on Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9.
