Magnificent Joy: Songs of the Holidays
The Venice Chorale’s opening concert at the Venice Performing Arts Center (VPAC) for the 2017-18 season is their holiday concert, Magnificent Joy: Songs of the Holidays on December 3, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. The central focus of the concert is a performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat by the chorale’s 100-member Concert Choir, with soloist Deborah Polkinghorn-Sûta, Soprano and a chamber orchestra.
Peter Madpak, Artistic Director, says of Magnificat, “The orchestration is brilliant and colorful and weaves a magical spell of balm and peace.” He goes on to describe the rest of the concert, “This sacred work is combined with secular pieces of joy and contemplation that emphasize togetherness and community.”
The concert will also feature the Venice Chorale Youth Chorus, which has 21 4th-8th graders this season, directed by Donna Ambrose. They will be collaborating for the first time with the Venice Area Youth String Ensemble (VAYSE). Established in 2013 by Donna Smith and Karen Tuttle as a string quartet, VAYSE has grown to become a chamber string orchestra. Venice High School’s a cappella choir, La Voce di Venezia, will also be performing.
