Successful Founding Membership Campaign for Classical WSMR 89.1
TAMPA, Fla. (May 9, 2010) – Last Friday, May 6, Classical WSMR 89.1 completed its founding member fundraising campaign successfully. The first campaign for WUSF Public Media’s new classical music station began on Saturday, April 30 with OperaFest and was scheduled to close on Friday at 5:00 PM. By noon, the station had reached its goal of 1,000 founding members and raised more than $117,000.
“We are deeply grateful to each and every member for supporting classical music on WSMR 89.1,” said Cathy Coccia, development director at WUSF Public Media. “The generous financial contributions of our listeners are a true testament to the quality of the classical music programming they have come to depend on.”
The completion of Classical WSMR 89.1’s campaign came just weeks after WUSF Public Media completed its spring membership campaigns for both WUSF 89.7 and WUSF TV. The two stations raised more than $623,000. According to JoAnn Urofsky, general manager of WUSF Public Media, these successful campaigns show support for the recent changes the public media organization has made.
“We are very pleased with the success of our membership campaigns so far this year,” said JoAnn Urofsky, general manager of WUSF Public Media. “We would like to thank all the listeners and viewers who support our stations, as well as our staff and volunteers who work so hard to make our membership campaigns a success.”
