Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in a Op. 16

Edvard Grieg composed one of his most important masterpieces at age 25: the Piano Conerto in a minor. It’s rather fitting, since the composer’s primary instrument was the piano, and he even intended to premiere the piano concerto as composer and pianist. The piano concerto was one of Grieg’s first major successes, and a government-funded grant allowed the composer to visit Italy in 1869, where he showed the concerto to Franz Liszt. Liszt played through the work at sight, and encouraged him to “go on, and don’t let anything scare you.” [photo: http://bit.ly/2BMHuU6]
