WUSF Public Media Ends Spring Membership Campaigns - Support for the radio and television station remains strong
TAMPA, Fla. (April 4, 2010) – WUSF Public Media recently completed its spring membership campaigns for both WUSF 89.7 and WUSF TV. The on-air campaign for WUSF 89.7 wrapped up just before 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011. As of Monday morning, April 4, WUSF 89.7’s campaign totals were at $455,000, received from 4,070 contributors. Only the second on-air campaign since WUSF 89.7 switched to a news and information and all night jazz format, the public radio station exceeded both its goals, which were to hear from 4,000 people and raise $400,000 in financial support. In addition, the public media organization completed its TV membership campaign on March 20 and raised more than $168,000. In total WUSF Public Media raised $623,000 in support of the programming.
According to Cathy Coccia, development director at WUSF, these campaigns are a real testament to the value and importance listeners and viewers place on what the public media organization does for the community.
“I am always amazed and gratified by the outpouring of support from our members,” she said. “The generous financial contributions of our listeners and viewers will allow us to continue providing the quality programming they have come to depend on.”
During the campaign, WUSF 89.7 set several fundraising records. The radio station raised more money than ever before in a single fundraising drive, exceeding the previous goal by more than $25,000. In addition, the number of people pledging their support was higher than the station’s previous best. WUSF TV also raised $18,000 more than last year’s spring membership campaign and exceeded its goal of more than 1,000 new members. The funds raised will be used to pay for the programming on WUSF 89.7 and WUSF TV.
